Summary

A plugin that archives social media posts from various platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter, Threads, YouTube, Reddit) directly into Obsidian as markdown notes, including downloading images and videos, creating clean markdown notes with metadata, a timeline view, and optional web sharing.

Key Insights

1. Archives social media content directly into Obsidian.
2. Supports multiple platforms including Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, etc.
3. Downloads images and videos associated with posts.
4. Creates markdown notes with metadata.
5. Offers a timeline view for browsing archived content.
6. Allows optional web sharing of archives.

Enhancement Suggestions

1. Implement Smart Linking and Summarization: Enhance the plugin to automatically suggest related notes within the Obsidian vault when archiving a social media post. This could use NLP to identify keywords and concepts in the post and link to existing notes on similar topics. Additionally, include an option to generate a short, AI-powered summary of the post within the markdown note. This turns the archive into a powerful second brain by actively connecting social media content to existing knowledge and making it easier to recall information later.
2. Automated Tagging and Categorization System: Expand the metadata capabilities to include automated tagging based on content analysis. For example, use AI to identify topics, sentiment, or people mentioned in the post and automatically add corresponding tags to the Obsidian note. Users could also define custom rules for tagging based on keywords or platform. This creates a more organized and searchable archive, turning it into a robust personal knowledge management system.
3. Integrate with Obsidian Canvas for Visual Connections: Go beyond the timeline view and allow users to export their archived social media posts directly into an Obsidian Canvas. This allows for visual mapping of connections between different posts, platforms, and personal notes. Users could drag and drop posts to visually represent relationships, create clusters around specific topics, and gain a more intuitive understanding of their social media archive within the broader context of their knowledge base. This promotes focused workflows by providing a visual interface for exploring and connecting archived content.

Analysis

This plugin addresses a common problem of social media content disappearing and provides a way to create a personal archive within Obsidian. The multi-platform support and media downloading capabilities are particularly valuable. The optional web sharing feature adds an interesting dimension.
